Hi this may have already have been answered, but how I do show the actual weld bead in the drawing.
You will need to create the weld bead in the model using the fillet bead tool on the Weldments toolbar.
I am welding machined parts and using the weld bead tool in 2011.
see attached jpg
Once your weldbead is created in your model go to insert model items
and select "Caterpiller" This will show the beads in your drawing.
on a sectioned view?
Maybe not. I have talked to my VAR about this command and even they
say it needs more work. We often put in an addition weld part just to show
how we want the weld to look.
Solid edge is a hell of a lot better at this, With edge you put your weld in the model or assembly, it would automatically show them in the drawing unless you hid them. You can also section them.IT looks a lot more professional than using catapillar.
I am certainly not going to argue with you on that point.
I have never used Solidedge, but have heard that before.
scott is this something we need to take up with solidworks, idealy i would like soild edge welding funtionality and drawing view functionality put in...
Yes, I would look in the enhancement requests because I think some have been sumitted.
Look at them and see if they match what you are seeing in Solidedge and if not, add one.
done and done
You might want to post the spr # here so others like myself can go to it
So, this thread done?
yeah lock it
Going to 'Tools > Options > Document properties > Detailing > display filter' (get this menu by right mouse button clicking on the annotations folder in FeatureManager® tree > details' also) and deselecting the 'Welds' option.
This will make only the weld symbols not show, and the rest of the annotations will display.
not what i want selvam I want to show the model of the bead in the drawing, I find it much easier for the welder to understand the drawing if i can show the beads in the drawing.
Any status on this? I'm running into the same issues.
I like to show the weld bead in the assembly, and in the drawing.
"Weld Bead" feature works great on the assembly, but dose not show on the drawing.
I am having to actually model in all the weld beads (and save, weld1, weld2, weld3 ect.) to achive this.
Unfortunatly this is the only way to do it. I suspect they are waiting to rip bits of code out of catia weld tools module.
Would be awesome to get CATIA for the sw price
But stupid bug, bug is stupid.
trust me CATIA is a ballache.
I worked a lot with CATIA, the problem with CATIA is you can't do a lot of stuff. But what works just works.
Mix that up with solidworks= win!
I worked with the basic CATIA version, I still prefere Solidworks over that one.
Just tried using the weld bead function for the first time. Not impressed. Why wouldn't you just draw in the weld bead (point to point) and then define properties (size, type, intermittant spacing, etc.)? Or at least allow that as an option. The automatic definition stuff is horrible.
To me it looks like a simple problem made overly complicated.
Sorry - just my 2 cents
Activate Show Weld option while you are doing 3D Modelling. Click on Weldments in property Manager, open tree, Right click >> Show Welds.
