Kevin, assuming you have Solidworks, take one of your
standard drawings, the level of difficulty to model the part should
be based on what level you believe the candidates should have.
Then set a time out for them to model as much of the part as
possible, specifically asking them to show design intent perhaps,
or use of design tables if you use these.
Realistically you may not ecpect them to evan finish the
part, but if you do this with say 3 candidates you will then be
able to go back after the interviews and asses what they have
achieved.
I would think that in 45 minutes with the dimensioned drawing
in front of them you could expect them to get a long way, depending
on complexity of the modelling.
The only thing I would say is that this will show an ability
to revearse engineer a part or assembly, not to create one from
scratch.
We are interviewing some applicants for design positions
within our company. What kind of questions do you like to ask or
test an applicant for evaluation purposes? (Specifically ones who
indicate strong SWX experience) Just want to evaluate their level
is as what 'they' promote.
