I open an assembly in SW2011 SP3 and it loadsandt appears on the screen then disappears. The feature tree remains on the screen but there is no model on the screen to work on.
Anyone seen this issue before?
My colleague is experiencing the same thing!!
we are yet to establish exactly what the problem is but... have you tried rebuilding, or hitting CTRL + R ?
If so does the image of the assembly return?
We are thinking that his PC is somehow not handling the graphics, which is odd as our machines are the same spec and I only get things dissapearing on drawings!
Welcome to the forum.
Yup, sounds very similar to my post several months ago.
The issue only occurs when a part is first loaded. It happened on 4 different computers here. Three are 64 and one was 32bit. All our computers are Dell but we have a mix of desktop and laptop workstations with a lot of ram and big dedicated CAD graphics cards so I don't think it is a hardware or driver issue. Large, assemblies have this issue not small assemblies or just parts. I am not sure if it occurs when I load from the Vault or my local hard disk. Usually if we close the assembly and reopen it and the assembly will load and appear correctly but not always. This issue was observed in SW2011 and all the service packs ( we haven't loaded SP4 yet).
Do you have 3d mice connected to the machines?
Does it do it ALL the time or just intermittently?
The problem is intermittent. One machine has a space ball, the others have ordinary mice.
I asked because if I zoom in/out or have my hand even resting slightly on my 3d mouse, before the file and feature manager loads completely, it will do this. I was just able to replicate what you describe exactly. Looking for the assembly is a hit or miss, and the zoom to fit will not bring it back. One of the predefined isometric views (iso, tri, di) brings the assembly back in view for me though. I now make sure I let the file load fully before zooming, panning, ect.
That's all I can offer, GL.
Thanks for advice. Had exactly same problem. My colleague saved assembly with model out of view (as we found out later) and we could get it back. ZOOM TO FIT SOMETIMES DOESN'T WORK, predefined view brought it back. Funny thing is, now zoom to fit works ok.
Summary: 4 man hours wasted, another bit of solidworks reputation trashed.
