I recently installed a new seat of Solid Works and was told that I could intall it at home too. Everything worked out fine until I started the program up with the desktop icon. A popup alert appeared and said that I needed to deactivate another license to be able to activate this one. Is there a seperate Home User License? If so, how do I get it?

You need to transfer the licence between the two computers.
So on the computer (work) :
Go to Help/Transfer Licence (image attached)
A window will open up, select the licence & transfer (image attached)
Licence is now de-activated on that (work) computer.
Then on your home computer:
Go to Help/Activate Licence
The home computer will now be activated. When you are finished at home you will need to transfer licence & re-activate it at work. In other words you can only have one computer acivated at a time
SolidWorks "allows" the second (home) license to stay "active at all times". the logic is, you can't be in two places at once. otherwise the transfer process would turn into a monumental pita.
someone has activated the 2nd license, that's why he got the error.
the most common cause is that someone retired an old workstation and forgot to transfer the license.
the other possibility is more deliberate in that there are 2 workstations at his office using the same SolidWorks serial number. i'm neither implying or insinuating anything, just tossing this out there.
What your saying is what I always believed was the situation.
So it must be a country thing.

what that means is the home or second license has already been activated.
you might need to get your reseller involved to reset this for you.
