PDF Preview problem

Hi,

I have some PDF files stored in our Workgroup PDM Vault, which are not solidworks drawings, just documents.

Through Solidworks Explorer, I used to be able to select the PDF file from the folder tree, and a preview would appear in the bottom right side of the screen. From here I could scroll through the document, save it elsewhere or print (without needing to check out, brilliant)

Now the preview does not work. When I select the document, it says 'you must download Adobe reader to preview PDF files' with a link to the website.

I already had adobe, but I did it anyway and am on Adobe 10.1.

The problem started when I installed Adobe Writer trial, which I had to uninstall and go back to using Adobe Reader.

No one else has this question

In the window explorer right click on any PDF file and select properties. Now set the open with option to Adobe Reader. This should set the PDF to open/read back with Adobe Reader and you should be able to see the preview as earlier.

  I am actually looking through Solidworks Explorer at PDF's in the Vault, so I cannot do it this way.
  
  When I right click on the PDF in the vault, there is no option to set 'open with Adobe'

    Joseph,
    I think what Deepak is trying to tell you is that somehow your
    PDF documents lost their connection to default open with Adobe
    for what ever reason. You may have to check one out to restablish this connection.
    Once you select properties by RCing on the file and selecting "open with"
    all the others should open up fine.

      Scott & Deepak are spot on.
      But you dont need to do it through PDM.
      
      As Scott says its just the connection between PDF Files and the version of Adobe you are using.
      
      You can re-establish the link from any PDF icon outside PDM

      Yes, sorry I did try this and there is no problem opening Adobe files, and I even get the preview you get when you select a PDF from windows explorer.
      
      It is only the PDF preview within Solidworks Explorer that has failed.
      
      One strange thing is that the PDF icons releted to PDF files has changed since I tried out Adobe Writer, please see attached image.
      
      Maybe Solidworks Explorer does not link to Adobe Writer, but I have uninstalled this and have Adobe reader as my programme to open PDF's

        It doesn't work on mine either. It will show images of png files within SW explorer,
        but not the adobe files. I know (in response to your other point about the icon changing)
        abode came out not that long ago with the "X" reader. Not sure if that has anything to do
        with what you are experiencing.

        Hi Guys,
        
        It is a problem with the new version of Adobe (X 10)
        
        I have reinstalled version 9.4 and it works!
        
        BEWARE THE ADOBE READER UPDATE.............

        Thanks for the warning. So it was what I said about the X reader. We instaqlled that
        at work so we can bookmark and highlight our pdfs. Glad you were able to get it back.
        This reminds me of the issues with Internet Explorer 8. Another one to stay away from.

        You can still download it from Adobe website, but who knows how long for.
        
        Solidworks may have to do a patch to work witht the new version.

        What is weird is I came into work this morning and there was an update warning from
        Adobe wanting to upgrade to 10. I installed the upgrade and when I opened up SW Explorer
        I was able to browse and view pdf files. I am not sure what version of Adobe I have at home
        but there I have Windows 7 and I cannot view the pdfs where as here at work I have XP and can.
        So this may speak more to how the OS interfaces with Adobe.
