Sounds like the drawing can't find the part file. If you are getting rectangles made up of
dashed lines with "X's" through them then that is exactly the case. If you do have the models
that are supposed to go with these drawings it some how lost the link. Then in that case when
you open the drawing in the open dialog box there is a references button. Click on that and select
the model. Hope this helps you.
I do have all the layers selected to be imported.
I have attached the files if anyone wants to give it a try. I am very interested in what the collective finds out.
The customer is threatening to leave us as a customer since we can't open his files. I figure the problem lies with them since I am able to open some of his files, but not these.
I tried opening these files in Solidworks and I got nothing. I tried opening them up in Draftsight
and again got nothing. The thumbnails are nothing more then the image of the last save.
I think there is something wrong with the files. Is the customer not willing to resave these files
or export them out as dxf? Seems like they are being a bit unreasonable. Really not your fault.
It looks like these DWG files were generated with AutoDesk Inventor (from looking at the file in notepad. Also the model space is empty. There is data on the Sheet tab)
DWG TrueView will open these DWG files. There is a DWG Convert option in TrueView, but it didn't work.
It would be best to get a DXF export from the original.
The files open fine in AutoCAD LT 2010. They should open up fine in DraftSight as well. They were saved as AutoCAD 2007, at least that is what AutoCAD LT is telling me.
You want to make sure you are looking at the Sheet Tab and not the Model Tab. The drawing is using PaperSpace in AutoCAD. There is no data on the Model Tab.
The data is there, the drawings are not corrupt.
Did you try opening the DWG in draftsight or autocad? You can copy and paste the geometry directly from draftsight/autocad into a new sketch in SW.
When you go File -> Open -> DWG in SW, make sure you go "All Layers" in the import options.
Thank you for taking the time. I wanted to verify the files were bad. The client is being a bit surely. :-)
