Solidworks opening multiple sessions

My company just recently upgraded from SW 2010 to SW 2011. We are running on a Windows 7 64-bit platform. After the upgrade I started having an issue where SW would open an entirely new session when double-clicking to open a part/assembly. Before the upgrade it would just open the part/assembly in the session that was already open. Is there a way to fix this?

Also, as a side note, I noticed that when I open SW now the icon that is pinned to the taskbar in Windows doesn't highlight, but a new icon shows up and highlights. That seemed kind of odd an maybe has something to do with my other problem.
