Hello again, I am putting together a BOM on an assembly drawing for the first time. Some of the parts just have a description and no part number. The BOM automatically puts my file name in for the part #. Is there a way just to leave that part blank? Also I would like to change some of the part numbers to match our new numbering system. Should I go change the file names or can I just change it here in the BOM and it will accept that? Thank you.
RMB on the config name and you see this PM dialog. We use the User Specified Name for our stuff - just type in whatever you want it to say. There's no reason to go changing file names as you will never keep up. :-) Our config name generally does not match the part number - it just happened to in the file I picked.

Thank you for your replies. I am creating another column like suggested. Wayne I like your idea, it makes sense. For some reason though the changes I make there in PM don't carry over to my BOM in the drawing. I am using SW2009.

I would just create a custom property called "Part Number". Then have the header
in your BOM point to this property. Then you can type in the value or not for each part.
This sounds like it would resolve what you are looking to do.
