Storing a .sldblk file in the PDM WorkGroup Vault

I am looking for a way to check in a .sldblk file in to our vault. The file is a base sketch for a logo that I need to use in various part files.

If I use Solidworks explorer to check it in to the vault I get the message that I need to use Solidworks to check in the file. If I load the .sldblk file in to Solidworks to save it in the vault it has to be imported to a .sldprt file which I didn't want to do.

So far the only way to check it in is to use bulk check-in under the vault admin package. Anybody have an easier way to accomplish this?

I do not understand what you are saying.

It opens in Solidworks however I want to store the sldblk file in the vault and not a sldprt file.

I can open a sldblk file in SolidWorks and it stays a sldblk file.

Found this tidbit in the knowledgebase:

If a SolidWorks® block file does not open in SolidWorks®, it will not check in through SolidWorks® PDMWorks® Add-in.

The only solution left is to use the bulk check in tool in the Vault Admin utility.

Ok. I figured this out after looking at Waynes post. Solidworks does not give you the option to open a .sldblk file by defualt but you can open it in SW by file, open and wild card it with *.*. It will open it as a sldblk file which you now can check directly into the vault.

Chris,

Open up SW Explorer and find the .sldblk file.

Then when you click on it you should see an option for checking in.

It will also give you an option to link it to a file already in the vault as well.

I wish I had a vault to work with at the moment because I would do a screen shot

of what I am talking about. I am going by memory right now, but not that far back.

I would do this with Excel and other types of files.

Are you clicking on the file or RCing on the file?

I get the same message no matter what I do. (RC or LC) I think you can link it to a file but I would like to keep it a seperate entity on the vault.

You don't have to link it to a file. I was just throwing that out there

as an added bonus just in case you needed to do that.

Are you still not able to get this into the vault?
