I have been trying to use splines for structural members [weldments] in order to have a more free form shape but It does not work.
I am using a 2008 version. Any suggestions? I am designing cast aluminum patio chair frames.

As per my Knowledge weldment doesn't work with splines but you could try small arcs and lines
Thank you Hardik, I will use arcs and lines.
you can convert your spline in small segment of arc and make a weldment pfrofile.
after that go to data migration and Using "Combine" command Create a single body
I found a work-around, but it assumes you have a straight section of your structural member on at least one end of your spline.
1. Sketch a straight line segment.
2. Connect your spline to one of the endpoints.
3. Add your structural member to the straight line segment.
4. Create a swept extrude using the sketch of the structural member as your profile and the spline as your path.
Works great for routing plastic tubing, hope it helps for you application, too.
