I have been asked to update our Solidworks 2010 to 2011, as well as update software for wPDM. At the moment we are running 2010 SP4.0 on 3 machines. My questions are:
-If I install Solidworks 2011 first as a new install (and keep 2010 on the same machine). Will I have any problems /conflicts when accesing wPDM?
-wPDM software (i believe) is on the network server and I would like to keep the current version of it running and in use while updating Solidworks on the 3 machines. Is this possible-or is it a bad idea?
-Can the PDM admin software be installed on 2 machines? And should I have a seperate disc for this?
Our Solidworks rep. did all this for us before so its all still a bit confusing.....
First of all, it is not a good idea to keep Ver.10 on the same machine as Ver. 11. to much confusion, I speak from experience. If you create a part in 11, you can't access it from 10. Versions are always backward compatible, never forward.
I think the best way to upgrade Versions is to first install the server software, then the workstations. A version 10 workstation cannot access a version 11 vault. There is always going to be some down time which ever way you do it.
The PDM Admin software is a part of SolidWorks Explorer as an add-in option at installation. There is no extra disk involved. It's my personal opinion as a CAD Administrator that there should only be one administrator, and therefore the Admin should only be installed on the Admin..machine
