I have a Loaner machine from Lenovo so we can test it to see if we want to start replacing our Dell desktops with this Lenovo brand of machine... I have to say I am very impressed with these machine and I am a long time Dell fan.
Anyway I setup a scene in SW 2010 PV 360 and I got the result I wanted. I copy the files to a new directory open them up in SW 2011 and try to recreate the same scene. I am very disappointed, that I can't and I don't know what I am doing wrong.
1) Some of the appearances in 2010 PV 360 are not in the 2011 version, which I don't understand why they would have been removed. (FYI it was a 3D floor tile appearance)
2) I have a Camera setup sitting in nearly the same respect as my other camera in 2010. The Depth of Field is set to the same location with the Same Focal distance yet the depth of field is incorrect compared to 2010.
3) Bloom I have this turned on and again I have the same matching setting as 2010 but the Bloom seems off as well. I am at a loss as to why this doesn't work.
I have attached an Excel sheet showing everything I copied down from 2010 that i am trying to reproduce in 2011, along with the files.
Here is the image from 2010:
Thanks for any help on this issue.
Regards,
Scott
Hi Scott,
1. Appearances: The floor appearance you're looking for is still in 2011. Under stone, architectural, floor tile (floor tile 7). That said, there could be a few differences with "out of the box" settings between 2010 and 2011. The integration required a fair amount of re-tweaking of settings to achieve 1:1'ness with SW (RV) graphics. There may be a few appearances where a subtle difference isn't yet accounted for. For example, the floor tile appearance you're using had a subtle amount of reflectivity in 2010 whch it doesn't in 2011. A tiny tweak (0.04) of reflectivity resolves this. And the blue car paint is (intentionally) a slightly lighter shade in 2011. The result when you add emissivity is that it tends to wash out even more and look lighter. Setting the primary color to pure blue, (0, 0, 1) resolves this.
2. Scene: The default HDR used in 2010 was a bit of a trial HDR that was never included in SolidWorks, but made it into standalone PV 2010. You can still browse to this HDR and use it if you like. In a future update of SolidWorks, we will try to include is a pre-defined scene.
3. Bloom: I didn't have an issue getting the same bloom results using the settings you mentioned.
4. Camera: The camera DOF settings work quite a bit differently, relying on the old visual "near" and "far" DOF planes we've always had in SW, rather than an f-stop value. I'm intending to cover DOF in 2011 in an upcoming "photoview friday" video.
Attached is the result I get in 2011.
