Ok- my turn to ask the age old question - any suggestions on a stable version/sp?
We have run 2008 sp5 for about 3 years now. Our company has gone through some
ups and downs with admin time and availability (I was off for 15 months).... so understand I am playing catch up
on the whole admin responsibility end of things.

Great to hear you were called back! I just upgraded to 2011 sp3.0 a week ago or so. I would say stay away from it until the next service pack comes out. There are some neat featuress But there is stability problems and it is a little slower. I have even seen the speed issues on the blogs with the bench mark parts. 2010 ran nice and 2009 was not bad either. Not sure what service pack we were on at that time for either of them. Should of been the latest and greatest sp's. Are you thinking computer upgrade or just software?

Finally decided to pay attention to some replies. I didn't get any for about a month - at the time, so it
went on the back burner. Apologies. I have experienced a few SW2010 issues, but no show stoppers.
I will soon receive my new Dell. Don't have all the specs, but it will be running on Win7, 64bit (first one at BP),
with a 1 Gb graphics card. Buhler is 'forcing' it on us due to UGS NX 7.5 upgrade - haven't touched UG in 9 months.

I know some here will disagree, but as I stated in https://forum.solidworks.com/message/175797#175797
No matter which SW version and SP, no matter whether x32 or x64, no matter which CPU or VC or how much RAM, there will always be users claiming, "This is the most unstable version ever" ... and other users with the exact same system specs claiming the exact opposite.
The best thing to do is test for yourself on a machine you will be using, with the products your company makes. What works perfectly for one person may not work at all for another.
I would listen to Kelvin.
If upgrades are difficult, and stability is important, then test it out.
Just read recent posts in "performance" to see how many people are having problems with SW2011. I also know of users who have claimed to crash less than once per month on SW2011. So I suggest having someone spend a couple days running the latest and greatest and see how it goes (saving locally, ofcourse).
