the avi save operation has failed

While attempting a photoworks buffer render of an animation of an assembly, I get the error "the avi save operation has failed".

This happes at various places during the render, on different attempts. This time at about 90% complete.

The error notice has the following suggestions,

1: choose a different video compressor (I am renderning it uncompressed so this does not apply)

2: adjust the height and width (I am using standard 720p widescreen 16:9 ratio)

3: need more free space (the flash drive I am saving to has over 5GB space left on it. Pleanty for the small amount remaining to render)

Anyone have any usefull suggestions?

Why are you rendering to a flash drive instead of the hard drive?

Because I am rendering it on a school computer where my quota is not large enough to hold the file. The flash drive is 16 GB, and the rendered file should be about 5, so there is pleanty of space.

Its more of the data rate then space. Can you render it to the hard drive then transfer it to the usb drive? This should help alleviate your error.

It completes the majority of the project before failing, I don't see how the flash drive's data rate would cause that issue. I cannot render to the hard drive first, as my quota on that computer is insufficient. Therefore I am rendering to the flash drive. I am trying to find the error that causes this error message to come up. The animation has no issues at the point of failure, and all the suggested reasons are invalid for my project.

Aaron,

Maybe your .avi file is considerably larger than you think? You could try pulling everything off of your USB Drive to clear up the full 16GB.

I attempted a smaller rendering of the first half of the animation, which completed successfully. Its size was about 4 gigs, therefore I assume that the full length will be about 8 so I am using a 16 gig flash drive. Storage space aside, what else could cause this error?
