The SmartMates commend is currently buried under the move component command. I would like to customize to add this onto the assembly tab in the command manager and\or create a keyboard shortcut for this command, but I am unable to find the command. Any ideas......

I do use the Alt drag the majority of the time.
But when you have to rotate your assembly the Smartmate "free drag" works better in that you don't have to hold down the left mouse button to keep your selection while also pressing and holding down the mouse wheel with your middle finger to rotate the assembly.

Sorry, but there is not a way. The smart mates is a sub command under the umbrella
of move components. Your best avenue to tackle this would be to use the macro
command and record this sequence and assign it to a hot key.
I even looked under the hotkeys customize menu and the smart mates command wasn't there.
How do add the Smart Mate Icon to to the assembly tool bar or add a keyboard shortcut if the command isn't present in the listing of commands?
That is what I was saying. Because it is not in the list of commands you cannot
drag it to a toolbar. This your best method is to create a macro.
When I run a macro that I created, it only opens the move component command and I still have to move the cursor over to select the smart mate icon.
Can you create a macro that activates the "SmartMates" command?
Have you used the ALT drag method for creating smart mates?
