4 -start over- attempts to install, always get this failure: "This required file is corrupt"
Install gets to ~30% each time.
My disk is a SP2 disck-- I'm trying a new install, not an upgrade to SP2.
As it says, the file is corrupt. Why not download sp2 off the solidworks website? Install 2011 off the disc if you have one, then upgrade to sp2.
My 2011 compact disk is SP2- the installation engine seems not to give me a choice for installing below SP2 and updating from the website?
I am fairly computer illiterate when dealing with software issues and corrupt files.
I guess you got your disc via your VAR? if so request a new copy. Either that or download SolidWorks (the whole package) from the website, but beware, it takes ages!
Welcome to SW forums Dave.
Check if you copy files from the media to your hard disk and then try to install from the hard disk.
OR else as Greg suggested, download the SolidWorks installation manager from the SolidWorks website (requires a user login) and then you can install directly from the website. If you have issues, contact your VAR to get the installation done or provide you with another copy of the media.

Thanks all-- my install is complete.
Tech support from where I buy SW helped and had me do the same advice as below-- that is to copy my CD to my hardrive and install from there
Except for the need to shut off Norton for a time, all went smooth and I'm up and running.
