I made this clamp as a solid model and measured the circumference to get the flat pattern size.
How could I make it in sheet metal so I can unsuppress it and have a flat file?
Just talking about the large round piece.
This is what I meant.
Open that part and on the Sheet Metal tab, click Insert Bends. Pick one of the edges as the base and it will happen.
And as a general rule, it's better to include the parts that go with an assy as sending just the assy file only lets people look at a pic of the stuff, not try your part files.
Ok. I changed the file to only the part.
When I opened it and selected the the edges it read "non linear edge is invalid" and when i click the face it reads "non planar face is invalid"
You could simplify the part as attached - note the flat part now has its own config.
I have tried both these methods and both work great. Thank you
If you think ahead and recognize that the band will be a sheet metal part, then Richard's method is my preferred method because it's more direct. If you "arrive" at the end shape, then inserting bends may be the more expedient method rather than remodeling the part.
I agree, foresight and/or hindsight is a wonderful thing! and i've yet to acquire either!!
