You say you have a Good configuration, but did you double check to make sue your video card is not only approved, but more importantly the driver? Believe it or not a lot of slow downs occur simply because of a driver. Our IMS dept has Windows to always update, by doing that the driver on the CA workstations will suto update the driver and has to be switched back fromtime to time, make sure this is not the case for you.
Tim is right, killing any programs\processes not needed to get through your day will help. Iremember often users would call when I was Tech support while working for a VAR and when I logged into their machine they would have Itunes running and playing music, bunch of adobe programs, qttask.exe was always running in the processes... its these types of programs that you don't need to run. I have Windows 7 64-bit and with all the crap our IMS installs i still run in the neighborhood of about 69-75 processes every day. Some days more, but that is just the items I need. I don't run Itunes or anything else... I used "hackthis" to remove all the process items that always started up on my box that I didn't need. The were not located in the Reg location, nor in the Windows Startup folder and looking in the program I was unable to find it. I used that program and wipped them all out. Now i start up with only what I need. If you have never used this program or messed with the process I recommend getting some help with that, as it does make changes to your registry and can fry it. Then your choice maybe to reformat if its bad enough... just becareful using it.
Turning Image Quality down might help.
The other part of this equation would be to understand what it is your doing and the complete Specs of your box?

Scott
Kill any unused programs and proccesses. Check the image quality in document properties the higher setting can slow you down. When do you notice the performance issues?
