I have an imported part that was created in SolidEdge sheetmetal. I need to convert this part to sheetmetal in SWx so I can get a flat pattern DXF. When I do this, the conversion makes weird cuts in the bend reliefs.
Has anyone seen this or have a solution?
i'm assuming the "round hole" relief is from solidedge.
this type of relief is abnormal to solidworks.
you could change the solidworks relief type to "tear".
there will be an ever so slight cut though.
or just cleanup the flat dxf.
When I use "insert bends" rather than convert to sheet metal I do not have this problem.
What's the difference between the two commands and why?
that's a handy piece of info to have.
guess i should have taken the title literally.
convert to sheetmetal is for users with no sheetmetal experience.
users who only know how to model blocks, shell and convert.
plus the magic "one button" conversion is appealing for sw marketing dept!
insert bends is the preferred way if it is already modeled in a suitable fashion.
Ok, so essentially they both convert the part to sheet metal but using insert bends assumes that you already have bend reliefs and using 'convert to sheet metal' assumes that you need to not only insert bends but also build a ben relief.
Is this correct?
insert is good for thin-feature parts which are modeled with sheetmetal in mind.
also ideal for sheetmetal parts imported from other cad applications.
insert can add bend relief's if needed.
convert is an entirely different beast.
convert is primarily for solid blocks.
it's a one-button-do-it-all feature.
look at the difference in the dialog box for each.
look in help as well.
they are vastly different.
most parts created using convert will need tweaking by sheetmetal programmer to clean up gaps and relief's.
