Updating Vault and License Manager Computer

Hello all,

I have been put in charge of replacing and updating the computer that my company uses for our SolidWorks Vault and License Manager. We want to keep the old one up for as long as possible so that we do not lose any time in the switching over process. Is it possible to keep the old Vault and License Manager Computer up and at the same time setting up the new Vault and License Manager Computer and then just switch which server to address to from the old Vault and License Manager Computer to the new Vault and License Manager Computer.

Any information would be a great help.

you can, but at some point the old server must be taken offline.

for the vault you must;
install pdmwserver on new server
stop pdmw service on new server
uninstall pdmwserver on old server
move vault from old server to new
re-start pdmw service on new server

no comment on license manager

Peter, remember that you a working with a copy at a point in time of the original vault. If you make the copy, then users continue to update the existing vault, they will no longer be in sync. You may want to temporarily change everyone to READ ONLY permissions after you make the copy. If you lock the vault, they cannot access it.

I also imagine you are installing the PDMW service on the new computer? You can only have one PDMW service per computer installed. Which brings another question, is this an actual Server that you are running your vault on?

  Yes i will put everybody on a READ ONLY permission. The computer is a Dell 390 that we use as a server. I do need the PDMW service so i will stop that service on the new one till i get it up and running.

Make sure you make a back up copy of the PDM vault folder on the server to a secure location.
