what i did is, right click on the bom, select insert new part, the assembly model opens, you select the components from the tree, that opens a blank part model page, you edit the properties there, the item will show up in your model tree as a part.
So this part shows up in your bill of materials but it is not an actual part, just an empty part document with custom properties? Sorry I'm just a bit confused, why does it open a blank part file when you choose components from the assembly tree?
i know its really weird. but im used to showing the end item in an assembly drawing. it would be item 1 becuase the assembly has a part number itself, item two and so on are the parts of the assembly. so solid edge figures make a part file so it can enter it as a single item. the indent feature doesnt do it.
To clarify (hopefully), the drawing is of assy A, and you want assy A to be the first line item in the BOM, followed by the component parts. Is that correct?
I believe you want to use an "indented" BOM. See attachment.
