Part rebuild each time I change configuration

My part ask for rebuildind each time I change configuration. I thought that Solidworks stores a solid as a parasolid for each configuration and then needn't to rebuild each time when swaping between them. The hotline of my VAR says no but as I doubt about that, I ask here where there is some skilful people.

I have config A as active.

Change to config B -> ask for rebuilding

Change to config A -> ask for rebuilding

Change to config B -> ask for rebuilding

...

In that case, I change nothing to the part between configuration swaping.

In that part I have:

Weldwent bodies

Sheetmetal bodies

Mirror of sheetmetal bodies

No one else has this question

  I'm afraid it's not possible as the part is 111Mo now.
  And it increased a lot since I made some drawings with some bodies. I will see if ecosqueeze can reduce it.
  
  It is a very strange high size as the part is quite simple. Features 120, Solids 36, Surfaces 0

  I talked about a the configuration of a part, not an asssembly. Swaping configuration when editing the part.
  
  Else I noticed that the part never loads as lightweight when used in an assembly.
  
  After equioqueezing that part, I reduce it s size by 2Mo...

You can use display state for one part. It doesn't need rebuild.

Display states let you specify different hide/show states, appearances, display modes, and transparencies for a part. Configurations let you create different versions of the part that change the physical aspects of the part.
- Hide some bodies in a multibody part while you work on others.
- Display several related features or bodies in the same color.
- Set some features to transparent to make it easier to see other features.
Configurations
Use configurations to create different versions of a part. Features are different from one configuration to another. For example, you might create:
- A simplified configuration with some features suppressed.
- Multiple configurations that have different sizes of the same feature.
- Configurations that use different materials.

  My part has different configurations for different geometries/dimensions then display states doesn't apply.

      There is nothing wrong here too.
      
      It seems to be the body symmetry of two features (one hole + one body) from my feature library that caused the issue. I'm not sure 100% now. I will tell news of that later when all is checked.
      I removed the supposed body from the symmetry and then added again and it seems better.

Does any of you sheet metal parts have an "unfold" feature? What I'm finding on our parts that do this is if I "unfold" a flange and it contains a cut feature, it rebuilds everytime you switch configurations.

It seems to be the cut in the flange, you will notice when you unfold a flange containing a cut, it creates a "Sketch Transformation" folder and a dervied sketch. This seems to be causing the unnecessary rebuilds. At least in our case.

  That is unrelated to your issue and to the topic of this discussion. I noticed I had some difficulties to unfold some bodies for drawings. That was due to the mirror feature. I had two sheetmetal bodies in my mirror feature. That is forbiden now in SW2011, it should be allowed in a previous release or perhaps they were not considered as sheetmetal due to a cut not normal. Now that I have only one sheetmetal body per mirror feature, I manage to do unfolded views in the drawings.

What I exposed with symmetry of the features from my library was the issue. It is solved.

Moreover the different configurations of that parts rebuilt themselves each time I changed any mate in the assembly where they were. Very time consuming hey!

  I was wrong. The systematic configuration rebuild is back and I have no clue what is the cause as I didn't change a lot to my part. This is the kind of issue that makes me loving Solidworks.
  
  Edit: It now has the statute of a bug. SPR 593973. Sorry for posting perhaps too much about that. I just wasn't sure 100% what Solidworks behavior should have been. Now I am. Thank you all.

The 2011 SP5 is out and there is still no bug correction.
If you have two configuration of the parts in an assembly or a drawings, each assembly or drawing modification makes the part configurations rebuild themselves each time.
I'm loosing my time. Just my feeling report that doesn't bring much to the community.

  Ronan - Has your part got any external references; i.e. a sketch or feature with an in-context reference in an assembly? If so, this will prompt rebuilds.

    Thanx, I wasn't aware about that.
    But in my case there is no external reference.
    By curiosity, I just tried the new 2012 "Feature Freeeze" on that part on another computer to see what happens. That makes Solidworks crash...

  What I write under is relevant for parts having multi folded bodies. What I said may not be 100% true but are good understanding I think.
  
  It seems there are several SPR opened for that (SPR 593973, SPR 635369 and surely some others). But still not repaired even with SW2012 SP1.0 I have one part that produce the issue from times to times.
  
  What's happen:
  - I think the main issue is that Solidworks associate a folded body attribute to the wrong body. Per example if you have 2 folded bodies, Solidworks may think that one body have the attribute of folded body twice (but only one is considered) and the other is loose the attribute. If you can't unfold a body, your part has the bug.
  
  To avoid that:
  - don't use symmetry with ~"propagate visual properties" (don't have the exact words for that in english solidworks, then it is a translation from my language)
  - don't use features that affect two folded bodies.
  
  To repair, try one or all of them:
  - rearrange the initial folding features of the bodies. Put the second one in the top of the history.
  - delete or suppress features that may produce the bug.
  - delete folded body symmetry feature. And recreate a new symmetry feature.
  
  PS: My Solidworks subscription ended one month ago then I can't discuss with solidworks about that anymore.
