Anyone else running into this? Things seemed fine with my 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator I've been using for years, until a couple of days ago. When I shut down Tuesday night, there was 1 Windows 7 update to install, and in the morning, I couldnt get my driver to start. I uninstalled & reinstalled it, to no avail. I then found instructions on how to cleanly uninstall it (involving removing 3Dconnexion things from the registry), and I followed those, rinstalled, and still the same behavior. No response so far from 3Dconnexion on the issue. I will say there are a few other annoyances going on with my computer that could be related - occasional freezes and yesterday I when I was going to the 3Dconnexion website, I was trying to get the driver to start, I soon got the blue screen of death, which hasn't repeated itself since.
Sounds like deeper problems than your 3D mouse. Are you sure you are not experiencing hard drive or some other hardware failure on your system?
