Hi all,
I am having trouble building my model. it consists of several parts attached together and they spiral around together. This model will be used for analysis so the objects must be touching perfectly in order to allow the analysis program to recognise the boundaries correctly. I do all my building within a part rather than an assembly as i find this easier than to mate the structures together because the geometry is complicated.I am told that rather than lofting them separately which causes overlaps, i should build a large solid of the outline and then split or partition this solid into the desired shapes. I agree this is a better method but cant seem to do it it properly! Whats the best way to partition my model?. The files are attached below. One is the model file showing the spiralled outline solid and the cross-sections used to build it. The other is am image of the cross-section to be used to partition it.. which are also in the model file. The cross-section to be used to partition the solid change along its length and the solid itself also changes along its length. Thanks!
p.s. im aware of the split tool and that i can use surfaces created based on those cross-sections along its length to split the solid but i clearly am not doing it properly as i always get errors saying cannot split body.
