    SW sketches to Rhino?

    Josh Peterson

      Hi all,

On student edition here. Is there any way to get a sketch saved as .prt/.sldprt to rhino?

I have a 2d sketch in solidoworks, but when I open that part file in rhino, nothing shows up. The minute I extrude to 3d in solidworks, that part shows up in Rhino just fine. I just want to get a 2d sketch though.

Is there possibly a 3rd party app I could use to convert to another file type that Rhino would read correctly?

Open the part, edit the sketch, select entities in the sketch, copy sketch entities, create new blank drawing (blank with no template or title block entities), paste sketch to drawing, save drawing as a DWG or DXF, open Rhino, goto file->insert (ctril+i), select 'all files' in the 'file type' drop down, navigate to your DXF or DWG, choose your settings, and click 'OK'.

You should be good to go.
