Issues with using Network Attached Storage (NAS)

I am currently working on improving the speed of a network that's primary use is solidworks software. There are approx. 10 hosts that use solidworks frequently and access their files and licences from the windows 2003 file server. The option to install a NAS unit to replace the server (in dire need of an upgrade) has come up and I have not found much information about Solidworks ability to communicate with this instead of a typical server. The option to use the existing server for licences is acceptable but I would like to know if the NAS could handle/would be compatable with PDM, the licence software and as a basic file storage server. Any help on the topic would be great.
