this installation guide?
im finding i really fustrating. One minute the guide talks about PDM the next about normal solidworks.
In the Installing PDM it says
1. Start SolidWorks Installation Manager (as described under section Initiating SolidWorks Installation page 8 which is all great until you get to the bit on page 8 - which is about installing solidworks, doesnt even mention about PDM, or how just how to update from 2010 to 2011? just pdm not solidworks. why is the simplest things so complex
ok if anyone has any answers to this would be great.
I have SW2010 and PDM Server on my machine, have been working fine.
Now i want to install 2011 PDM Sever, Vault manager and SW 2011.
So i backed up the useual stuff. templates etc....
Now i started the CD, selected update PDM workgroup.
Then it wanted to download to SP2.0. so i went ok,
it downloaded went to install, then the Address the Install was looking for the SP2 files, Where they had downloaded to there is nothing there.
I then went back to try again. and it wont let me download them again. and the directory is still the same but there is nothing there.
which is really fustrating because i cant install, it because it cant find the downloaded files, and i cant re download it.
Fustrating.
So then i think ok, ill just install SP0 of PDM. But it wont install because some Workgroup PDM program is working in the background. which just to top it of i cant Stop!!
your question was about server so i will focus on that.
the server portion is a manual process.
copy the folder labeled pdmwserver (from download, see jpeg below) to your server.
logon to server, either physically or via remote desktop.
run the setup.exe from the pdwmserver folder.
done.
when i downloaded SW2010 SP5 Professional the following folders were created
Thanks Guys,
i have managed to get the Server to SP00.
however as seen in the thread scott posted, i now have problems with 2010 with 2011 server,
I knew today was going to be a toughy!
On the Plus side........
Solid Works Explorer 2011 is fully downloaded and working (except the PDM plug in)
every cloud has a silver lining and all...
oh and the way i got SP00 was just by not selceting the download latest option in the install manager and then clicking "ignore" in the close down background PDM service, and then just reseting afterwords
ok i had before today
Server on 2010
PDM Admin tool 2010
PDMW 2010
Solidworks Explorer 2010
Solidworks Itsslef 2010
Now i have
Server on 2011 SP00
PDM ADMIN tool 2010 and 2011 SP00 (2010 does not work asks to be removed manually (how>>>>/???)) (2011 works perfect)
PDMW 2010 and 2011 SP00 (both available in Add in Drop Down in solid works) (2010 says it needs to be updated) (2011 Cannot find some installtion files from SW 2011)
Solid works Explorer 2011 SP00 (works perfect expept License for PDMW is not available i guess it needs it from 2011)
solidworks Itsself is on 2010
What i would like....
Server on 2011 SP2
PDM Admin tool 2011 SP2
PDMW 2011 SP2
Solidworks Explorer 2011 SP2
Solidworks Itsslef 2011 SP2
i'm not sure what to say to that.
i guess to put it politely you appear to have a glitch or two.
you may have to uninstall everything and re-install.
however, leave pdmw server alone, it's ready to update to SP2
typically when you run the installation manager everything gets taken care of.
except of course the pdmw server.
when i go from one version to the next i always uninstall (e.g. 2010) before installing the new version (e.g. 2011). if you didn't uninstall 2010 this may have caused the glitches.
the exception to the uninstall is pdmw server. it does not have to be uninstalled and can be upgraded from one version (2010) to the next (2011) without issues.
Believe it or not, the upgrade procedure is in the installation guide (I would have expected it in the administration guide).
