Gauge/Bend table vs individual part templates

For as long as Ive been using SolidWorks Ive used individual part templates for each gauge sheetmetal we use. (approx 6 gauges I use on a daily basis).  Ive been told by others that I should use gauge/bend tables rather than part templates.  What are the benefits of using a gauge table?  My templates have about 6 custom property fields pre-filled depending on the material used, as well as the thickness, k-factor, and bend radius predefined.  It looks like you have to choose this each time you create a new part using gauge tables.

Just trying to get a better understanding and the pros/cons.

Thanks.
