I've promoted componet child on level up but the the relative ballon does not show the item number (..but only *).
How to get the balloon number update?
Right click on the view, select properties, and check the box that says Keep Linked to BOM.
It does not work...
Open the assembly, right click the component, select Component Properties, and uncheck the box that says Exclude from Bill of Materials.
If you highlight the part in your assembly and look at the properties tab, is the "Exclude from Bill of Materials" box checked? That will cause a * to appear. Also, you can try switching the Bill of Materials table to an indented format instead of top level only.
I discovered that the only thing that is working is setting BOM type to indented type
and than setting flat numbering on drop down list.
You need to further play with the cross that will appear on the BOM table.
Anyway the feeling is not really comfartable. Looks like you are not really
in control of what is include and ballooned.
Yes I know, it can be somewhat annoying when dealing with multiple parent levels. One other thing that I would mention is the dissolve option. If you right click on the row of a parent assembly you can choose to "dissolve" the assembly. This will take the parent level off of the BOM and leave the children there. Maybe this will help. I've been through these things many times.
usually when a component won't show up in the bill of materials it's becuase the component appears in a different configuration from the one that the BOM is assigned to.You might check your other configurations in the assembly and make sure that the promoted part is not supressed. I think the out-of-the-box templates in Solidworks have configurations set to suppress new components by default.
Start with that and report back.
