PDF api to track history/revisions which arent solidworks documents

    Simon Schuck

      Hi - me again!

Thought Id ask the question as it seems it is possible but with some skills... We currently have a request to capture revision history and automate the procedure when documents other than solidworks documents are printed to pdf within PDM and tracked/stored in relevant folders. As my understanding goes this is possible but you have to write an api to do so.

Does anyone have any pointers/tips/solutions for this please?

Thanks in advance - maybe one day once I get to know this system I can return the favours!

      Cheers

I think there are two good options

          1. Modify the Convert task to also support additional file types
          2. Create an EPDM addin

In both cases the process is rather similar

          • Determine what program shall be used to convert the document (look at the extension)
          • Connect to the program, use its API to open, save and then close the file.

One last point if working with Office documents. If you are using Office 2007 or higher use the program's SaveAs pdf function rather than printing to a pdf print driver. The output seems more reliable.
