Is there an easy way to create a straight line sketch from a cylinder projected onto a flat surface in SW 2010?
Your question is a bit vague.
Exaclty what are you trying to accomplish ?
The forum community would love to help you out, if we understand what you need.
Basically I want a straight routing line from a screw end to a perpendicular flat surface.
Two more things to consider:
Are you using exploded line sketches?
I assume so, but it never hurts to ask the dumb questions. This special kind of 3D sketch has automated tools for creating exploded line sketches.
Create a 3D Sketch. Create a line. Select the diameter of the cylinder. Ctrl-Select the line. Choose Concentric mate. Then constrain your endpoints as required.
This can be done.
Start the explode line at the end of the screw, select "reverse" if necassary, deselect "along x, y, z", select the surface. This will create a zigzag line.
select ok. then x out of the line creation mode. You'll still be in the explode line sketch.
Now remove 2 of the line segments that aren't connected to the screw.
Then change your veiw direction to be perpendicular to the line.
Grab the end of the line and drag it to the edge that represents the surface.
You'll get a warning that SW won't add a coincident relation.
I hope that this is helpful.
Enjoy this day,
