@ Scott Mcfadden
I did it since the begining what you mentioned. I found my file and opened it, but I just can't manipulate it. I see the 3D model, rotate it, zoom in/out, but I can't see the FeatureManager Design Tree, including even I can't take any dimension or modify any Extrude or Revolved feature.
Bringing in iges or step models have no history with them.
They are just dumb models.
You will have to use the measure tool to measure.
You will have to use feartureworks if it is a solid to get a history tree and knit the surfaces if it is an iges
No, they are what we call dumb solids. Meaning in the feature manager it just says "Imported"
There is no features (i.e. bosses, cuts, holes..etc) If you have feature works you can try that, but
that seems to work best on simple imported parts like machined parts.
Depending on the software from which the iges, stp files are coming from you may be able to call up their exact
model into Solidworks. If you look at the image I posted in this thread you will see Pro-E as an option.
When you bring in their files you get all of the features that were created in Pro-E into Solidworks.
I hope this makes sense.
