Are there any lines of laptops out there they will be compatible with Solidworks 2010 and 2011? I want to take a user from a workstation to a laptop. But I want to make sure a laptop will work.
Have you checked out the Solidworks portal to see what they recommend?
Here are some links that may help you as well.
The Precision series of laptops from Dell are classed as "Workstations". I used to have the M70 (now outdated) and now have a M4500. I was/am happy with both of them. There are also some from HP that work as well. Keep in mind, the performance results will be dependent on the size/complexity of the files being generated.
Dell, Lenovo and HP all have workstation class laptops.
I purchased a Lenovo W510 matching the recommended specs in the graphic cards sections (http://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/videocardtesting.html). I work in a lot of dirty industrial environments and so far I have been very happy with it. No performance issues. Purchased through VISA business and saved a lot of money. I think HP can get similar deals. (http://www.visa.ca/vsfb/offer/Lenovo/index.jsp).
