access custom properties of a part in an assembly

Hi all,

When in a part / assembly if I use the measure tool a fly out box appears with info in it.

What I would like to see is when in an assembly if I highlight a part either in the model or feature tree and run a macro

then a fly out box similar to the measure tool fly out would appear showing a list of the custom properties of the selected part.

Is there a macro out there what does this that anyone would be willing to share.

Or is there a better way to get this custom part info when in an assembly.

Hi Mark,

Here's a different solution

How about inserting a BOM into the assembly, you can have it in the same window or a separate one as I have shown.

When you select an item in the assembly the corresponding line is highlighted in the BOM, you will also have the option to add details as you go

Could you give a walk through example of how i would do this.

Attached is a word doc with two screen shots, 1st one is an assembly, 2nd one is of a part opened up from the assembly showing custom properties.

How would I be able to show these custom properties in an assembly just by selecting a part. (not having to open it up).

I really like that idea, I totally forgot about being able to use a BOM in an assembly.

This is the way I will go.

One last question how do you get the BOM to appear in a separate window.

Micheal I have found out how to create BOM in sepearte window.

Hi Mark,

Select the BOM in your feature tree

RMB on the BOM icon to get your drop down list

Select Show Table In New Window

    1st create interfaces for parts and assemblies

    then just use
