Hi all does anyone know where are these PDMWorkgroup tuturials I here everyone talking about? I'm on the verge of implementing/installing PDM here and would like to read, view and listen to any and all advice I can recieve on the subject before jumping in with both feet. Deepak thanks for the links I got off another thread about this.

Here's my senario, we will install the vault on the server so what do I need to be aware of? Also I'm considering checking in our tool box inside the vault, what are your ideas on this. I would also like to have library parts into the vault what about this?

One more thing, so I get our IT guy to install it on the server. After the install can I go back to my desk top pc and do the configuring and the like there? If so at what point of the installation does the IT guy stop and I go back to my desk and pick up?

your var might be able to help with self training.

years ago our VAR "gave" us a training manual.

it comes with a cd which has several training vaults already setup.

the 2004 version i have is still relevant today.

On your last point. Once the PDM vault is installed on your server, make sure your PC

is able to see that server. Some one then that is an administrator needs to create an account

for anyone who is going to use the PDM.

Hi Scott thanks I appreciate it. I'll have to go through this info and the others I have. Do know of any video tutuorials? I've seen the ones from Progression of Dallas but they were very rudimentary.

I guess I should clarify, I'm accustomed to using PDM type software including PDMEnterprise, beam me up Scottie, but this time I'm not simply the client I'll be the administrator, hence my concern as to when I can configure the PDM system. Sfter it being installed, I assume by IT? Or does it have to be installed and configured from the actual server?

I don't know I'm just guessing that the IT guy can install it on the server and then stop. Afterwards I can go back to my PC and begin to configure it and assign groups, clients and the settings. Is my thinking correct. If so when is the PDM considered installed then the IT guy can stop, and I can pickup from there from my location?

Hi Dan,

A lot of the server setup depends on your IT departments procedures. In my last job I was not

only an administrator, but the guy that setup the vault on the server (loaded the software)

and maintained it. While the server was located physically in the IT department they didn't touch it.

I did. So, if you are comfortable in doing it and they are ok with letting you, then you might want to go this

avenue. That way in my opinion things get done faster and the guy doing it knows Solidworks.

But, once the server is setup then you can setup like I said before the clients on the individual PCs

But, for you since you are going to be an administrator, open up the PDM admin and setup the accounts

and everything the way you want the vault to look like first.

I hope this makes sense. I personally went through the training classes from my VAR before doing any PDM

setup or usage. Maybe you don't have that kind of opportunityso it makes it a little more challenging.
