How to create a punch tool for sheet metal.
Welcome to SW forums Chethan.
Here you go : Creating a Form Tool for Sheet Metal Parts
Link you have given is for form tool creation. Form tool will form (draw) the material in to the given shape.
Given procedure will help if i am punching a hole in the center of sheet metal because forming material will be merged in to the existing material around and you will see on the hole.
Try to put the same form tool at the edge of the sheet metal you will see the extra material protruding out of the sheet metal boundary.
So what shape is you actually looking.
I am planning to use it for all type of shapes like Hole, Hexagonal cut, rectangular cut etc.... only criteria is it should not form outside the sheet metal if i put it on to the edge of sheet metal.
Then create library features for those shapes.
Creating a Library Feature
Adding a Library Feature to a Part
I am using this method already. but i am facing problem in the orientation of the tool with respect to the reference given when i call this feature in to the other sheet metal.
Attached is the procedure which i am fallowing to create the library feature please let me know if i am missing something.
Use Tools > Sketch Tools > Modify to rotate the sketch after you place them.
I am doing this also but to do this every time whenever i place the tool in different orientation is time consuming.
But ideal whenever i place the tool and provide the reference edge or plane it should automatically rotate the sketch.
I have edited my previous message and added the procedure to create the tool can you please check that once and let me know if i am missing something in that, or sketch will not auto orient with reference plane and i have to do it every time i place the tool.
The procedure is OK. But the tool doesn't rotate as expected, seems like it's a bug. Time to report it.
