how can I change a language?
Welcome to SW forums Taras
Where you looking to change the language. SW will use the language you specified during installation. If you looking to use English (thought you have installed a differnt language), then go to Tools > Options > General and select the following two options:
1. Use English language menus. (Available if you specified another language during installation and the regional options in the Windows Control Panel are set to that language).
You must exit and re-start SolidWorks for this change to take place.
2. Use English language feature and file names. (Displays feature names in the FeatureManager design tree and automatically created file names in English. Existing feature and file names in a foreign language do not update when you select this option).
This option is available when Use English language menus is cleared, you are running the SolidWorks software on a foreign language operating system, and you installed SolidWorks for that foreign language.
is it possible to change a language without re-installing?
In the download process I selected French and the instructions changed to French. I downloaded and installed what I thought was the French version. Everything is in English. I see no difference between my English installation and my French installation. When I go to Options/General the English Language check boxes are both grayed out and not available. Is there another step I'm missing.

Are you running your operating system in the French language? SOLIDWORKS will only run in a foreign language if the operating system is also set to that foreign language. This is because much of the interface of SOLIDWORKS comes from the Microsoft standard dialogs, etc. So, if you are running the OS in a foreign language and have downloaded and installed that language for SOLIDWORKS, by default it will run in that foreign language. When running in a foreign language on a foreign OS, then those specific options to show certain things in English will be available in SOLIDWORKS.
I hope this helps,
Deepak is right, in that the language is set on the install of Solidworks.
Looking at the help file, there is no setting that changes this.
What you can do is go to control panel>add remove programs>select solidworks and hit the
change button. See if going through this process will allow you to do it.
If not I am afraid you may have to uninstall, clean out the registry and reinstall with the
language of choice.
Please let us know how you make out so others in the future will know.
i changed the language but when i create a new part there is still the previous language. In the feature tree is also the old language so the planes are called "Ebene". How can i change this?
The names in the FeatureManager tree comes from the part, assembly and drawing templates. If you want new templates generated with the new language, you must either delete the existing templates or simply move them to another location on your hard drive. Then, when you go to File, New, when it doesn't find the templates, it will generate new ones using the currently set language.
I also want to change language from english to french.
During the install, I checked french in the language option. But there isn't any "french" folder in my solidworks lang folder after installation. I changed the language region in my control panel, adding french, putting it on top of english on the list, got back to control panel/uninstall program/change program. I installed again solidworks. French was already checked in the installation settings. And the french folder is still not in C/Program Files/SW data/ lang.
What can I do?
I start to believe my solidworks hates me...
How can I work this out with him?
Be warned Feng; this is a hack so it is not supported nor will it provide a complete solution. There are many things in SOLIDWORKS that use standard Microsoft user interface, so if the operating system is not also set to the language, using this hack, you will see some English along with the other language.
I just didn't want people to be mislead that this is a method suggested, promoted, or supported by SOLIDWORKS.
I know, its a old thread. But I run in the same problem.During the installation I added the german language pack. This selection was additional. My OS is Windows7 german. But my location is Spain. After the installation the whole program was in spanish. Ok, for now I changed to english, but this is sub optimal. I want german. How can I change the language?
