Thanks Sal, we already have all the folders read-only and the
"always change read-only stauts..." box checked. Note: the files
themselves are not read-only.
It's kind of strange. We're seeing several toolbox parts
which do not behave normally when placing them. Sometimes the
graphics do not show, sometimes they do. Either way, they come in
and the cursor changes to a plus sign but there is no attempt to
mate with the assembly. When dropped, the part is behind the
assembly, just floating around in free space. I've checked, and
yes, there is a mate reference.
Any other ideas?
There are two important things that need to be set when
working in a shared Toolbox environment. First, make sure that
every Toolbox folder and file on your network from the "Browser"
folder down is set to read-only. Second, from within SolidWorks,
choose Toolbox - Configure Browser. Click the "Always change
read-only status of document before writing" option (NOTE: this
option will have to be set on each users system)
These two settings will work in concert with one another
allowing one user to place Toolbox components into an assembly
while another user has an assembly or drawing containing Toolbox
components already open.
I'd like to add some additional information...
If someone else has an assembly open which has the same
hardware, we get an error that the file is being modified by
another user when we try to drop it in. The toolbox is on a network
and the directory and subdirectories are read only. There have to
be some type of multiple user settings that we're missing. Any
ideas?
We have the toolbox on a network. We frequently get errors
when an assembly file using the hardware we want in a new assembly
is open. For instance, I am attempting to print an assembly
drawing. My co-worker is attempting to drop hardware into his
assembly but gets a "drop file error" stating that the toolbox file
is open.
Other times we try to drop in hardware and all we see is an
icon with a plus sign. The error we get states that the file we
want is already open, do we want to show the open document.
Weird stuff going on. Any ideas?
I had the same experience until I went into each folder and
selected the files directy and set their states to read only. It
was explained to me that sometimes windows does not set all the
files to read only when you set the file folder and contents to
read only.
Hi Chuck
You may need to turn on the Collaboration settings:
Tools - Options [System Options] - Collaboration,
[x] Enable multi-user environment
Hope this help
