What is a good video card to run eDrawings?

Hello,

I was browsing on the web site for system requirements concerning eDrawings Viewer only and I couldn't find it.

I am not going to be using CAD or Solid works on my laptop I just want to use eDrawing viewer to do presentations.

I am looking to buy a new laptop because I am experiencing poor performance I my old one.

I found that I need OpenGL compatibility, but I will like to know if I really need to buy a Laptop with professional graphics cards like Nvidia Quadro, those are very expensive and I don't think I need it for eDrawins only, but what are the minimum requirements?

I have found two models of laptop one has a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 530v (512Mb RAM video) and the other one Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD Graphics. Are these cards too weak?

I will appreciate an advise.

Correct Answer

If I was going to buy a laptop for eDrawings, I would buy one with a regular video card. Either the Intel Integrated, or the ATI should work just fine.

I have an old (3 years) Fujitsu laptop L1718 with ATI Radeon card (sorry i cant remember the exact model)+2gb RAM. I use e-drawings regularly- this works fine and is even OK with full solidworks.

your video car should be ATI Radeon Xpress 200M.

It gives to me a very good idea of your config.

When you use eDrawins viewer can you rotate your image with colors or you have to take colors out?

no problem,

I checked and that is the graphics card i have on my laptop. The colours are usually similar to what is designed in with solidworks-I have had no problems making presentations with e-drawings and colours are okay when rotated etc.

Alexis,

I would say any of the ones that Solidworks recommends on their website

would be the ones you should aim for. Regardless of whether you are running Solidworks

or CAD. When they post those cards up there if they are good enough for Solidworks they are

certainly good enough for Edrawings.

I have no doubt that those cards are good enough!... :-)

But It might be overkilling if I use a professional graphics card (very expensive) for eDrawing, since I am not doing any design, is only for demostration purposes...

I am looking for a category of graphics card that will do the job even if I don't get high end graphics.

Basically my question is if I use the regular ATI redeon 350v with 512 Mb of RAM memory, the application will run ok? or I need a better graphics card? if so wath is the model that will fit my needs? I honestly think that the minimum requirement published by SolidWorks are based on the full product for 3D modeling and design.

Thanks for your answer, it confirms that I am not the only one with the same reaction, because at first I though like you... :-) but I decided to do a little research before doing a big expense for no reason, unless I realy need to.
