2011 Bug: Structural steel shape reverts to default in assemblies

I have a large assembly that is using a C-Channel Structural steel shape in a part file. I am then adding drilled and tapped holes to it.

Every time I open the assembly with the part, the assembly opens the default C-Channel Structural steel shape and not the modified part file.

I can replace the shape with my modified file. But if I close the assembly and re-open, the assembly goes back to the default structural steel shape.

I didn't have any issues in 2010.

If you look at the attached images, one has the correct files listed. The other is what's shown after I save the file, close it, and re-open.

Okay, my VAR found the problem:

Under Tools->System Options->Hole wizard/toolbox

There is a check box that says, "Make this folder the default search location for toolbox component". That box needs to be unchecked.

Now I can get back to work! This was driving me mad!

I am having the same issue with gears. 2011 has blown apart a major assembly for me that includes several modified gears. I have no choice but revert to 2010 and pull out my back-ups until I get a solution for this.

I have contacted my VAR on this matter.

Here is what I tried as a test with 2011:

I created a gear using the toolbox and made a modification to it by adding a counter bore.

I saved the gear with a part number in a file.

I then created an assembly model and inserted the modified gear.

I saved the assembly.

Close both files.

Now, if I open the part model and then the assembly there is no problem.

If I open the assembly and not the part model the assembly replaces the part model with the unmodified toolbox part.

My big problem is that an assembly I created, and which behaved nicely, in 2010 had all the gears, which were all modified items, reverted to the unmodified toolbox parts. I wasted 3 days rebuilding the gear models and the assembly for it all to revert to junk again. The only gear that didn't fall apart on my assembly was a compound gear that I created as a weldment. I did try making all the gears weldments but that didn't work. I did not open the compound gear models out of fear that would foul that up.

I am open for suggestions and if my VAR comes up with anything that works I will be sure to post it.
