I'm reaching out to the community to see how other users handle the difference between design and detailing dimensions of structural steel in Solidworks.

This is just a for instance but I'm looking to gather data. AISC does not specify K and K1 values when giving dimensions for beams but they still have a chart for design dimensions and detailing dimensions.

Which ones do you use in modeling; design or detailing?

I see all of the Solidworks steel profiles are dimensioned per ASME/AISC/ANSI/etc design dimensions (W24x117 beam = 12.8" wide design not detailing 12-3/4"). The problem comes in when putting in gussets, web doublers, etc that are put in per Detailing dimensions; how do you handle the discrepancy?
