Recently I've been given the green light to spec a couple new workstations for Engineering, but with the economy being what it is, I'm having to justify every penny. There's a new "sheriff" who has questioned whether it's really necessary to buy two hard drives to set up a RAID-0 config. I admit that I've pretty much just followed conventional wisdom here in the past without actually seeing hard numbers, so my question is does anyone have or seen a benchmark that compares I/O for a conventional single disk vs a (2) disk set-up configured in RAID 0? In theory, since the data is split between the two disks, it shoul be about twice as fast, but the "sheriff" isn't going to buy theory, and I don't have a single disk set-up available to test it myself. Thanks.
