I could sure use an e-drawings viewer for my IPAD.....Any buzz out there for APP developement?
eDrawings® is now available for the iPad®!
You can download this application now.
I could sure use one too,
But from what I understand we will have to wait until the cloud floats... and pay more $ to use it..
there is a third party app, which you can buy a SW plug in for.. but the plug in is a few hundred $, I haven tried it, its to much to pay for something that seems a little basic.
vue-cad I think its called..
I went ahead and downloaded Vue-Cad for our sales department I-Pad. It works well but there is no available module for Solidworks files. You end up having to save them as STLs. (I saved my assembly into a sldprt first to make it as simple as possible.) The main issue sales is having is since its an STL it is just one color. The program works as well as you would expect a $10 AP to work. I do wish it had a module for Solidworks files.
VueCAD now has a SolidWorks module for $99.99. I have yet to try it and will see what further develops in the tablet domain.
I also would love an App for Solidworks. An edrawings viewer would be sufficient. I recently downloaded the AutoCAD WS App and it works great. I can see plenty of uses for an app fieldwork, sales, trade shows, etc. Come on Solidworks give the people what we want.
SW must have there head in the clouds on this one.... I just expected a app would exist, but was dismayed when I couldn't find one, I wonder if the A-cad one can open STEP Files...
Might have to download it and see if the A-cad one can work for us SW users
I am sure Solidworks will have an iPad App for eDrawings someday. If they need a good example of how to do it right, they can look at the AutoCAD SW App, which works great.
There is an iPad viewer for Solidworks files. It's called iCAD Professional. We have an AddIn for solidworks that you can download from our website, www.icadprofessional.com The app supports solid cross sections, measurements, mark up, hiding parts, etc. and can handle many common 3d formats.
I believe you would be more correct to represent yourself and the product as "we" and not "they" eh Davido? And $59.99 for a viewer app?
Good point... $60 because it took a lot of development time and it is currently the only app that does everything iCAD does. There are similar apps, but I haven't found any that work very good and have all the functionality required.
Take pride in what you do or it might come off as misrepresentation of the product. It might be a great product and there is a free version to try but it pays to be upfront.
Good luck on the promotion Davido (really, no sarcasm or bad vibes intended).
and it doesn't even view SW files - you have to export them into the iCAD file format (.ipv).
this is NOT a SW viewer.
Mmm. this post has been going for nearly 18 months, and still no hint from SW about a native tablet viewer
Good things take time miracles take slightly longer !!
Perhaps it’s just a to bigger challenge for the SW developers
I called and spoke to someone at customer support when I was looking into this issue in June of 2011. The service person I spoke to said Solidworks had no plans to provide a viewer for mobile devices.
I love the new eDrawings ipad app. Rotating and zooming in on models works great. I'm not having any luck with the configurations slide out tab to the right. I have an exploded and non-exploded version of the models saved as an eDrawing but the side out tab only shows Default as the only configuration. It would be great if the Default and Exploded versions were in the tab.
theres an exlpode button on the top menu bar, havent tried it with my own assemblies yet, but it works well on the sample files
Exploded view does work on your own assemblies. You must go to configurations and create an exploded view configuration in Solidworks first, then save as an e-drawing, then send it to the Ipad.
