Hello. I am trying to split a multi-cavity tool with sub-gates. When I create shut off surfaces, it keeps telling me I have redundant loops. I could be wrong, but I don't think I have any redundant loops. Does anyone have a work-around?
Thanx.

Hi Brent,
I always model my runner and gates after the tooling split has already been done.
I think, from what you described, getting rid of reduntant loops would be a matter of defining additional parting line features to define the other split lines where each cavity and the runner intersect parting line. Not sure if that's where the reduntant loop issue is coming from though - couldn't recreate the error here.

OK - I actually had this error happen for the first time on my next job! When I first read your post I didn't get that it was "shut off surfaces" feature that gave the error. Where it happened for me was a part with internal loops (similar to the internal loop that a subgate would create) that were automatically selected by the system when invoking the "shut off surfaces" command. All I did was deselect the internal loops that didn't need shut off surfaces and then all my loops defaulted to "contact" and I could create the feature.
Hope that's helpful.

I was able to work around the problem by adding small edge gates, updating the parting line, and parting surface. Then removing the edge gates once the tool is split. Has anyone successfully split a tool with sub-gates?
