Questions regarding 2006 and 2007 compatibility

I'm confused too... :-)

You 'should' be able to install PDMWorks 2007 and SolidWorks 2006 without having to update your SolidWorks. However, you may not get to use some of the 'new' functionality that is dependent on SW 2007.

Can you give me an exact scenario of wht you are trying to do?

I'm confused. My VAR just said to me it was possible.
He said to me that on his computer he had SW2006 and checked-in a file in a PDMWorks 2007 vault.

I was confused by an answer I got to another question (SW2007+PDMW2006) and remembered the other way around.

-I need to install SW2007 someday.
-I need to upgrade the vault to PDMWorks 2007 (at the same time I guess)
-I need to use SW 2006 from time to time for the next 2 or 3 years.
-The parts modified in SW2006 will need to be checked in to the vault.

When in SolidWorks 2006, can I use the PDMWorks 2007 add-in to check-in my parts?

Yes, you can use SolidWorks Explorer to create a local copy of the documents from the vault, but you can't checkin back this documents with sw2006 because you don't have acces at vault.

From what I understand, the PDMWorks 2007 add-in is not compatible with SolidWorks 2006. So if I migrate our vault to 2007, I won't be able to access the files with SW2006? Or can I get a local copy with SWExplorer 2007 then open the local copy with SW2006?
If so, would I be able to check them back to the vault as a SW2006 file?
