After recent windows updates, my SolidWorks install rolled back to SW Standard (I had updated to pro a few months earlier),
anyway, I thought i would just reinstall SW and all would be well, but I can no longer log in to the vault or use the PDM, I get the attached error,
Anyone got any ideas...
I am getting the same error as in the above screenshot.The error reads:
"Could not log into Solidworks Workgroup PDM. Please check that the vault computer name is correct and that the Solidworks Workgroup PDM server is running on that computer"
I have the PDM Vault setup on my computer (which I have local access to and everything works fine, ie Workgroup PDM Server is running) but other computers on the same network cannot access the vault. The other networked computers can see the files in my vaultdata folder through explorer, so its not a permissions issue (users have full control on this folder). PDMWorks just cant figure it out.
I know exactly what my computer name is, and I can have the computers sitting right next to each other and with the PDMW login information exactly the same, my computer can access, and the other client computer will return the above error.
since the actual computer name was not working, I tried "pdm.xxxxx.com" as mentioned above. I tried the computers IP address. I tried the \\xxxxxx\ format as well.
I am on Win7 using SW2012SP4, PDM2012SP4.
Any Ideas?
You might have 2 seperate issues here, first for your access:
Are you sure the vault service is running. Go into Task manager, click the services tab and look for PDMWorks Workgroup Server; it should have a status of "Running".
Log into the vault admin tool and make sure the vault is not locked. The vault name here will be "localhost".
If these are OK, log into the vault with SolidWorks or Solidworks explorer, again the vault name will be "localhost" when the vault is on your computer.
If that does not work, the issue is beyond my skills, call your VAR.
For the other computers accessing the vault, just because they can see the folders does not mean they have proper PDM access. Workgroup PDM requires some ports opened in the firewall to allow other users access via PDM. The ports and instructions are in the Workgroup PDM admin guide, which is contained within the SolidWorks Installation and Administration guide..

You have to type in the vault computer name upon login.
It is the third line of the login titled "Vault Computer". I used to get this message all the
time if one it couldn't find the vault computer or two it was the wrong vault computer name.
Once you type it in the login should remember it.
It should read like this pdm.yourcomputer.com with "yourcomputer being your vault computerss name.
