im designing a sheet metal part that uses a round emboss. in the center of the emboss i have a hole. im trying to find a formula to calculate the pre-punched hole size for an emboss and im not having any luck. we have always just made test parts to figure out the pre-punch size but that sometimes requires many test parts and i would like to narrow it down a bit. thanks
Draw a sketch and isolate the formed area by cut extrude the rest of the body (flip side to cut) or by splitting.
Then measure the volume/mass of the remaining body. And delete the body.
Convert the previous sketch and draw a small hole and extrude as the same thickness and measure the volume/mass. By changing the smaller hole to match the volume/mass.
Basically it is a process of matching the volume/mass of formed area to the flat blank.
