I have a design table linked in a model but it will not save the table. Instead it creates a new excel file. The steps in saving / updating design table looks like it should be working and ask if the original file is to be replaced but it does not save the changes.
I am using an external design table tha is linked to the model to drive models. This external design table is also linked to an Access database that compiles dimensional information that is used as a search database for all our parts and assemblies.
I want the external design table (Excel spreadsheet) to be updated from the model once new parts are added or parts are modified. The design table will drive upto 150 different models. We will have different design tables for the dfferent components of the assembly.
Right now if I want to save the linked design table it will create a *_new file the first time I save it. I do not want this. After the first save, it never writes the information to any file.
Our goal is once the model is updated or created, the Access database is automaticlly updated.
You can set the update options in Tools, Options, System Options, External References. Set Update out-of-date linked design tables to to Prompt, Model, or Excel File.

Are you linking an external file to a DT in a part?
How, and why, are you trying to save the DT?
