Hi there guys,
Can someone help me understand what the text i've highlighted in the screenshot attached means. If i'm to start building up a feature library and start importing those features into different parts, how does PDM handle these features when it comes to checking in and out? Is this where i'd want to use Standard Libraries to reference to? If so how do I want to set this up? so i want to have an network folder which contains all features used, likewise with the toolbox set up. I'm getting a bit confused by all this setup for PDM and could do with a little direction for this part.
Thanks,
Jack
a.k.a. non-revisioned items.
assemblies/parts residing in these folders do not get checked into the vault.
they do not have a revision.
they will show up in the vault with the library icon as a reference.
make sure you fill in the properties you wish to have display in the vault because if you forget there is no way to correct. you can fill in properties later but if the item already has a reference in the vault the properties will never display in the vault.
this can be confusing to understand but, i'm sure you will experience this at some point and then the previous 2 sentences will make sense.
Thanks Kenneth, i'm slowly starting to get my head round it all.
One issue that i'd like to know the answer to tho,
Say a particular part is made up of some Library Features that have been imported from my local design library, and this part is then checked into the Vault, how does the vault handle the library features? i'm guessing that it makes a reference to the design library? but then say someone else on a different machine checks out the part, do they require the same design library set up for the part to reference to? or is this where locating the design library folders on a network drive would work best?
Thanks,
Jack
the features inside the part are not managed.
imho, the library icon was a poor choice to use for non-revisioned assemblies/parts as it is shared by the library features.
as you may or may not have noticed, toolbox items have thier own icon.
they should have created a special icon for non-revisioned items.

as far as the library features go, this is a seperate subject not related to pdm.
the other users should have access to the same libraries as you.
in solidworks, go to tools>options>file locations to set your library paths
network is best choice for this (and toolbox if you use it).
