I am not sure if this is in the correct category, but does anyone know why as of SP 3.1 in 2010
Solidworks discontinued their Drawing Editor as an add-in program?
yup, with Autodesk
and no it is the exact same product, just a new name.
and as of right now anyway, part of that is that it is no longer handled by the SWIM and is not controlled by SNL
Look on the website under downloads, there is a '2d editor' now...
I saw that. Do you know if this is just like the drawing editor?
Have you used this 2D Editor?
Does this mean this new product doesn't mirror Autocad anymore?
Good to know. I will give it a try. I used Autocad for years and loved the fact
that the drawing editor mirrored Autocad.
Also- it's all being replaced by DraftSight anyway - see http://www.3ds.com/products/draftsight/draftsight-overview/
This will be Dassault's / SolidWorks dwg editor of the future, my guess is that dwgeditor and 2Deditor will simply dissolve into the backgraound from here out.
Basic version free, enterprise version $250 / seat to get LISP API and support.
If all you need is to be able to open the latest ACAD dwg files and view or save out as a different version, this works well.
I saw this as well and got a little confused.
If both the drawing editor and the 2D editor are disolved in the future then
any 2D editor from the sounds of it will be a license thing only and not come along
for the ride when you buy a seat of Solidworks.
If that is going to be the case I will personally hate that!!
Sick of things being taken away and having to pay more for less.
